Sabato.....drifting into Domenica!

The days are starting to run together for reasons that are not quite clear. The weather, the sun, the ease of our daily routine and a general sense of relaxation have clearly shifted the way we go about spending our time.....or at least how we absorb our experience. The continuous stimuli on all of our senses has been a pleasant surprise!

It is Sunday morning (and we are finishing up our post from yesterday) and sitting in the studio we can hear the sound of the sea on the rocks outside, and the church bells ringing in Bogliasco for the 11:00 mass.  A motorboat just went by towing a group of three small sailboats towards Nervi.  The gardener attended to chores very early this morning (before 7!) by burning some brush on the lower levels of the gardens.......the smell of the smoke and the chirping of the birds was wonderful to wake up to.  I suspect we could appreciate all of this at home, but somehow we are always moving to quickly to allow our senses to adjust.  Hopefully, we can bring this kind of 'course correction' back home with us!

Yesterday was fun.  In the morning we went on a walk into town to check out the activity.  This is a long holiday weekend for France and Switzerland and represents a kind of 'kick-off' for the summer season.  It is quite similar to Memorial Day weekend for us.  There was clearly an increase in the number of people walking the streets as well as the number of shops that have opened.  The beach clubs and cabanas are being hosed down and a fairly large number of sun-worshipers have already hit the beach.  As we have mentioned before, beach is a relative term here.  People lie on any horizontal surface that they can find.......usually of the 'rock' variety!

There is a fairly nice sand beach in Bogliasco.  We spent some time wading, having not thought to put on our suits.  It was very nice and the water was warmer than we expected. Afterwards we had a lazy walk back, with sustenance provided by coffee and limone gelato at the Bar Central next to the piazza.

After an afternoon of work in the studio, we went out to get gas for the car at the local station - which is run by the nicest family - which we think are father & daughter.  We made a quick stop at the local market and headed back for drinks on the side terrace with Signore Gianni, followed by dinner and then Fiske's presentation! The presentation, which lasted almost 2 hours (you know Fiske!) was of current work and past work, including photos, paintings and sketches of inspirational influences found in Liguria.

We are calling this three bridges and two bottoms!
Fiske checking on the water temperature
We had a great talk with a spear fisherman in Bogliasco........no luck today because the water was too calm
This is a great protected beach area behind the church along the Passeggiata.....a lot of stairs!
The beach and harbor in the center of Bogliasco
The stairs from the beach to the Passeggiata......Andi well on her way to the top!
Aperitivi on the west terrace Saturday evening.......Gianni, Andrea, Marc, Marian, Robin, Ilona, Stewart and Dominique.  Adrianna, Paulina and Daniel were just arriving
