Un Altro Giorno in Paradiso

Today was a good working day.  Mondays tend to be quiet, and this was no different.  For some reason, getting out of bed was a bit of a struggle.......and breakfast was quiet as several others opted to sleep in.  The weather was a bit moody with some rather dramatic clouds having moved in overnight.  It is always an experience to get up in the morning and look out off the balcony to discover what nighttime changes have occurred.  While there was a starry sky last night, the morning brought a clear shift.  We could see to the horizon to the west a clear outline of the alps.....but could feel a noticeable air change here.

After breakfast we spent the morning reading and working.  By lunch, no real changes in the weather appeared, so we opted to stay in for the afternoon.  In the early afternoon, a significant series of wind gusts appeared......branches blowing off the trees and shutters unhinging from their connections.  It was over as soon as it started.  The weather changed dramatically and by 4:30 the sun was shining and we got inspired to go out for a walk.

We ended up at Peruzzi for a couple of glasses of prosecco while we relaxed and looked out at the view.  This was probably not the right approach, as we finally drifted slowly back to the foundation for dinner......ready for a nap rather than drinking and eating again!  The evening, however, was rejuvenated both by the marvellous weather, but also by Stewart and Dominique's return........along with a the entertaining stories of their quick trip back to New York and the opening of Stewart's opera.

The weather was so nice that we decided to move the 'drinking hour' outside to the terrace and found it a challenge to be dragged back inside for dinner.  The conversation was engaging as we had the largest group yet at the table........13 people total.  After dinner we had a slightly shortened period of discussion and digestivo, which was highlighted by the chocolate covered orange peels that Andi had found in a candy shop in town this afternoon!

Anyway, we are not showing much on the 'photo' side tonight, but are updating our ongoing work with image collection and some attempts at painting.  I suspect we will not reach the level of 'watercolor fluency' that we would like by the time we head home.  Andi mentioned today in the studio that this will need to be a long term project........too much rust in the 'macchina!'

What follows may or may not be self-explanatory.  The work moves around quite a bit depending on the mood.  There are a series of photo 'essays' on the background theme of 'layers' and 'boundaries' while the ongoing interpretive work in watercolors moves somehow forward.......we hope.  The idea is that the photo compilations stress the immutable characteristics of fixed images and relationships......unaltered......literal......while the painting work offers more of an interpretation of what we see.  Our sense is that the painting is gaining emphasis on the natural overlap of boundaries and more of a sense of transparency and a blending of borders and spatial definition.  I should stop here because I not making sense to myself.......very dangerous!
