OUR BLOG

As we get ready to embark on this exciting adventure.....(wonderful how excitement, energy and ambition rises up from this kind of opportunity!), we thought it would be great to share our experience with our friends, family and colleagues.

After some thought about various approaches through social media, we have decided to try to convey our messages through a blog.  While this is our first exploration into setting up a blogpost, so far it has been relatively straightforward.  The challenge has been time more than content.  It is a bit like taking an online course in computer science.  It works well as long as you focus and don't jump ahead of yourself.

We also expect a few course corrections and steps backward as we move forward with our blogging initiation!  As with many new experiences, one's perspective often changes as the plot thickens.  I am convinced we have not fully anticipated the right structure or the best means of information conveyance........so things are bound to change!

The following outline summarizes the initial structure of the blog.  This is both to inform others, but more importantly to remind us of what we are planning to do.  While the basic format will be a series of blogs posted on a periodic basis (hopefully daily), we are relatively ambitious in attempting to organize information on both the work effort lying behind the structure of the fellowship research as well as our personal experiences related to daily life, travel and general social engagement.

The primary intent is to capture the spirit of the experience, as well as the key aspects of the study investigations as a means to simply memorialize the time at Bogliasco.  On the other hand, we have no interest in having the administrative burdens of posting our blogposts interfere unnecessarily with the flow of our day to day immersion in the life of Bogliasco. The ultimate caution for us is to not structure or predict too much of what lies ahead.

We will carefully monitor the appropriate balance.  Since we both are somewhat addicted to our digital lifestyles, we are hoping that there will be a fair amount of available energy.......time will tell.  The hope is that we can share a reasonable amount of this extraordinary experience.

The content of our blogpost will be necessarily focused on the developed blogs.  As the content of these blogs will be rather diverse in subject, we thought it would be helpful to outline the key themes under which the blog topics might fall.  The following list represents our initial thoughts.  These topics will be found in the section called 'Categories' on the right-hand side of the home page of the blog.  Each blog is assigned a label of this type, thereby allowing for a clear grouping of similar topics.

CATEGORIES

Prima del Viaggia (before the trip)

  • Miscellaneous details with respect to our preparation for the trip.......blogs before the start!

Persone (people)

  • Casual reference to the people we meet and work with during our stay.  We hope that our new acquaintances will be one of the more meaningful aspects of our stay.

Posti (places)

  • Without doubt, the experience of "place" will be significant.  Our travel plans in the area around Genoa are ambitious and we will try our best to capture our experience in photos and daily writing.
Diario (daily journal)

  • A bit of a travelogue.......details and remembrances.

Idee (ideas)

  • The basis for this fellowship is to explore new ideas and unexpected stimuli with relative abandon.  While there is a general plan of research development, the hope is that new and unplanned ideas will emerge.  These ideas may redirect our anticipated patterns for the stay........painting, art history, music, writing......whatever suggestions arise.

Progetto di Lavoro (project work)

  • At the core of the assignment, however, is my proposal to explore past and future initiatives with sustainable design and the ways in which architectural form can develop stronger sensitivities and integration with the forces of nature.  This section of the blog will not be the primary repository of my research and design investigation, but will hopefully be appropriate for periodic summaries.

Alla Fine (at the end)

  • Closure is often a difficult transition.  The expectation is that there will be a variety of comments, continuing directions and future opportunities that will be both energized and appropriate for inclusion.
