Today is an incredibly beautiful, summer-like day. After a quick breakfast, we walked in the gardens below the villa before heading out for a long walk in Nervi, the neighboring town to the west. We walked down to the Passeggiata (named in honor of Anita Garibaldi (who really was a wonder woman!) which runs along the sea for a few miles into Nervi harbor.
The walkway was busy with walkers, dogs, sunbathers, picnic excursions, etc. Each day another cafe opens for the season. We returned via the 'museum parks' just in time for lunch. Some of the best moments of each day are spent with the other fellows at meals - what a diverse group of people! Just listening to everyone's experiences all around the world is so interesting..... and takes us out of our realm every day.
Spent siesta sunbathing on the 'tower terrace' terrace (small 4th floor roof patio!), watching sailboats, cruise ships and container ships far out to sea (Genoa is the Mediterranean's second busiest port). With the beautiful weather enticing us to explore further, we walked into Bogliasco in search of some gelato (although we knew we would end up at Cafe Peruzzi!).
We suspect this weekend represented a bit of the "opening" of the seaside towns for the summer. The beaches (sometimes a stretch of the imagination) were fairly crowded. We walked along the coast and up to the hill to Peruzzi......at which point we had a great bowl of gelato (cioccolato fondente e limone.....very nice combo), a cappuccino and some acqua frizzante.
A lazy walk back ended up with another late afternoon siesta........this nap thing is catching on! We then prepared for Sunday dinner by taking our wine, prosecco and snacks down to the living room. On Sundays we don't have the official aperitivo hour, so we got together to do things ourselves. Dinner was a great seafood salad......but was quiet as Stewart, Dominique, Marc and Erika were all still traveling back from a quick trip to Parma. The rest of us ate and ended up on the roof terrace with our extra wine well into the evening! We had some amazing lighting as the sunset turned into evening, with fantastic thunder and lightening well to the east in the mountains......quite a beautiful night.
