Una Serata a Genova

This evening was spent in Genoa. We carpooled (3 cars/11 people) into the city - about 7 miles west of Bogliasco. Once parked (under the Opera House), Alessandra led us through the piazzas to the medieval quarter of Genova.

Walking through very narrow, car free streets we reached the restaurant - La Forchetta Curiosa - the Curious Fork - where we enjoyed a dinner of cuttlefish with chickpeas & sesame seeds & spinach pasta with John Dory fish. We ate quickly to be on time for the theatre - just across the piazza.

The play was "Delirious New York", an avant-garde interpretation of the book by Rem Koolhaas....... in 5 languages......it was a little hard to follow! The cardboard boxes you see in the photos represented the "skyscrapers" of New York.  During the course of the play, the City "burned down" several times (throwing the boxes in all directions) and was subsequently rebuilt on each occasion.  The implied mating scene of the iconic skyscraper heads represents (we think) the rebirth of the City.

On our way back to the parking garage, Alessandra led us through the public ground floor of the  Palazzo Ducale - ducal palace - of Genova, a huge and impressive structure. Our car, driven by Marian and navigated by his wife Ilona (an artist from Slovakia) became separated from the others on the ride back to Bogliasco but thanks to GPS we made it back with no problem. We actually managed to arrive earlier than the others......somehow having passed them in the outskirts of Genoa.

Quite a fun evening........but a really bizarre performance at the Teatro della Tosse!
