Off we go.......with a bit of a detour! We were about two hours from getting our Planetran ride to the airport when Aer Lingus let us know that the second leg of our flight had been cancelled.......from Dublin to Milan tomorrow morning. Apparently the Italian Air Traffic Control system decided to strike tomorrow, and all flights into the country are cancelled. Even years later, we have not forgotten the curse of the 'sciopero!' Only in Italy!
The next couple of hours were a bit on the hectic side. Andi got on the phone to see if we could get a hotel in Dublin that would allow us to show up at breakfast time tomorrow. Our flight gets in before 6:00 am. I got on the phone with our travel agent and the airlines to make sure that we could reschedule our flight for Sunday morning. Then we needed to change the Rental Car pick-up date........and finally try to cancel our first night hotel reservation that we had booked near Alba. In all instances, it seems like we have been able to shift gears without any real headaches.
We got off the phone and the internet just in time to grab our ride and head off to the airport. We decided it was better to spend the day/night in Dublin rather than delay our departure from Boston. Andi printed an article on 36 hours in Dublin and we are off on a new adventure!
The airport was very quiet as we got here a bit before the standard afternoon 'international' rush.......we breezed right through. We are now hanging out in the Aer Lingus lounge getting ready for boarding around 5:15. Nothing like a last minute shift to keep the pulse going strong! Go with the flow, as they say!
Above.......currency exchange at the airport.......luggage and travelers.......non-existent security lines!
p.s. - below is an image of how I spent my morning in the office, signing 450 construction drawings for permit application!
