Anyway, peace and quiet as soon as we turned into the gated entry to the Foundation property. We were greeted by very accommodating Foundation staff who helped us take our luggage into the villa and up to our room. We will probably be talking about the details of the property in most of the upcoming blogs, but here is a short summary of how this is laid out:
- we are in Villa dei Pini, which is the main building and the original residence
- there are two other villas across the street and up the hillside, as well as a music and art studio and a series of gardens, and a tennis court.
- our 'hang out' is on the second floor and consists of a bedroom, a bathroom and a small library.
- we have an additional studio on the third floor which opens off of the Fellow's Library. This is where much of the actual work happens!
- There is also a laundry and a small exercise area on this floor.......and best of all a wonderful covered roof terrace.
- the main floor consists of several public living and lounge areas, and the main dining room. Our meals are all served in this room, with breakfast and lunch buffet style, and dinner with the whole gang served at 7:45. We meet for cocktails and aperitivi at 7 in the central living area of the villa.
- There are four fellows and their partners in our building, and five more spread between the two other villas........for a total of nine. This is the third session of the year, with 15 fellows already having undertaken their residencies.
